What you will need

  1. ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric
  2. ½ cup cold water
  3. 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  4. 1 teaspoon honey (optional)
  5. A tiny pinch of black pepper (optional)

How to make it

1

Put the water in a clean glass or small pitcher.

2

Add the other ingredients and stir or whisk until mixed.

3

Taste a small amount and add water if too sharp. Divide into servings and stir again before drinking.

Adjust the flavor

For a sweeter citrus version, replace part of the water with orange juice. Leave out black pepper if you dislike it.

A useful preparation tip

Whisk turmeric into a little water before adding the rest. It can settle, so stir before serving. Pepper is a flavor option, not a required absorption promise.

Serving and keeping it fresh

Make a small batch close to serving for the best texture. Cover and refrigerate promptly if you save a portion. Separation can happen; stir before serving. Fresh homemade juice is untreated, and lemon does not make it shelf-stable.

FoodSafety.gov recommends refrigerating perishable food within two hours, or one hour above 90°F, and keeping the refrigerator at 40°F or below.

Portions and ingredients

Fruit size and optional ingredients can change the final quantity. Use the ingredient labels and actual portions if you track nutrition. Check packaged ingredients for allergens and choose substitutions that suit your needs.
